Caleb Mutali

Caleb has been practising in the area of Architecture since 1994 when he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Nairobi of which 14 years are specific in the provision of healthcare infrastructure.
Caleb’s highest educational qualification is a Master of Architecture from the University of Nairobi.
He is fluent in English, Kiswahili and French having worked for the French in Nairobi.  He went on to teach the French language both at beginner and intermediate level over the intervening years.
Beyond teaching and practising general architecture, he has distinguished himself as a hospital architect and a healthcare facility planner for well-known local brands such as the Aga Khan University Hospital and AIC Kijabe Hospital to name but a few. In addition to providing consultancy services as an architect at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, he has been involved in the preparation of the preliminary design for the newly opened University Centre Building for the Aga Khan University on 3rd Avenue Parklands.
He is a strong proponent of salutogenesis and works to create health-promoting environments in designs.  He is also familiar with international health building design codes used globally in healthcare facility planning such as the UK NHS facility codes, European HBN, HTM, American FGI, NFPA and other health and safety codes. His area of strength as an architect is design coordination between the architecture deliverable and the engineering building services for hospitals.
In addition to consultancy, Caleb is involved in academia. He has been part of the teaching faculty at the University of Nairobi since 2010 were he holds the position of Lecturer; this places him in a vanguard position to research on emerging trends in the areas of sustainable, green, appropriate and new construction technologies.
